Why is the Caucus registered as a Political Action Committee (PAC) if it is a “nonpartisan” organization?

The Caucus is registered as a Political Action Committee very simply because the Caucus is an independent “group that makes contributions, expenditures or electioneering communications in excess of $5,000 supporting or opposing candidates for [local] public office” according to the Illinois State Board of Elections Guide to Campaign Disclosure.  In order to support the candidates we put forth for public election, the State requires us to register as a PAC.  We do so as a non-partisan organization with no specific political orientation since that is core to our charter.  The State requires us to report our operational activity through this process and further helps keep the activity of the Caucus transparent to the community.
